Laghu natika is a form of Sanskrit drama that emerged in India since old times. The term Laghu natika means "small drama" and these drama/plays are characterized by their short length, compact structure and simple plots.

Laghu natika typically have a small cast of characters usually consisting of no more than 4 or 5 actors. The plays are performed on small stage and are meant to be watched by a small audience. The theme of laghu natikas are often centered around social issues, awareness and harmony . The earliest Laghu nataka was written by the renowned playwrighter Bhasa, who lived in 3rd century. Bhasa's plays such as "Swapnavasavadatta" and "Madhyamavyayoga"are considered as classic of Sanskrit literature. Laghu natika were highly popular during the Gupta period( 4th to 6th century CE). The plays were performed in temples, places and public spaces and theye were very important part of Indian culture. Today Laghu nataka still performed in some part of India although they are not as popular as they once were.
